The 5th annual Smackdown in Jacktown tournament was held in Jackson, Michigan, on November 8, 2008. Greg Zimmerman announced the winners in the Shadowfist Forum on Yahoogroups on 16 Nov 2008. Members can read the original in the archive.

Tim Linden won the multiplayer tournament [decklist and some tournament play-by-play too], taking the top spot back to Canada. The dueling tournament went to James Deto.

What's up, secret Warriors?

Recently, a battle of epic proportions was waged. A confrontation that saw factions from several areas and eras come together to determine who would be the 5th annual Great Lakes Smackdown in Jacktown Champion.

We had 18 players representing Toronto, Chicago, Jackson, Kalamazoo, East Lansing, Detroit, and even Baltimore. I couldn't have asked for a better field of competitors this year. Natalie Boon was the lone female fighter. She made a great showing, almost sitting at the final table. Ashton Zimmerman, 8 years old, made his tourney debut and had a blast competing.

John Merrill and James Przytulski of Jackson, Michigan were just on the cusp of making the final. But their kung fu was ultimately inferior. The final table was dominated by representatives from Chicago and Toronto. After a little over 4 hours, a champion was crowned. Alan Hege, Jim Pai, and Kel McKay put up a valiant fight. But, Tim Linden was the last warrior standing.

Congratulations Tim!

Our Who's the big man now? tourney came down to James Deto vs. Mike Lasinski. James' 7 Masters rose to the challenge and he is able to proclaim, "I am the big man, now!"

Thanks to everyone who made the pilgrimage to Jackson. It was a blast.

I can't wait to do it in '09!
