It happened again! The no man’s land that is Jackson, Michigan became a scene of horrendous brutality as some of the most ferocious warriors arrived to battle it out. The da Vinci Primary School gym was the site of the 7th annual Smackdown in Jacktown. The talent pool was deep, with players crossing international borders, from Toronto, and state lines, from Texas, to attend.

Festivities kicked off at high noon with a great firstround. Our 15 players broke down to 3 four players tables and 1 three player table. The first round saw Jon Kurylczuk and Ross Carpenter, from the hometown, and Charles Soong and Cavebear Stroud, from Toronto, draw first blood in the win column.

The second round saw Texas represented in the win column by Daniel Griego. Big Bruiser Jon K. secured his spot in the finalwith a decisive win. Secret War upstart Sid Flores, from Jacktown, held on to a timed out victory. And The Chairman, Braz King, began his quest for the unconquered title.

Round 3 saw Daniel secure his spot in the final by coming out on top of the best of the best of the tournament. Sid hammered out another timed out nail-biter. And New Hero, hometown boys Kyle Smith and Josh Doyle made a last ditch effort for points by winning their games.

The Final Round matched up Jon Kurylczuk, Daniel Griego, Charles Soong, and Braz King. The tactics ran hot with all players vying for the title. But, the field couldn’t stand up toThe Chairman’s fu. After 90 minutes, Braz claimed his first Smackdown in Jacktown Final Brawl Title!

The New Heroes tournament was held in Johnny “Red” Merrill’s game cave. Refreshments abounded as 7 of us attempted to usurp the New Hero master. Tim Linden and John Merrill stuck it to the field in the first round and the scene was set. Charles Soong, Daniel Griego, Shane Snavley, Greg Zimmerman, Braz King, and Cavebear Stroud would have to enjoy the atmosphere and the refreshments.

The second round saw John win decisively, with Greg Zimmerman eeking out a timed out win. John was crowned the New Hero champion with his formidable Syndicate deck.

Thanks to everyone who came out! It was a great time, with great games , and greater people. Until next year….. Kiiii-Yaaaaah!!!!!!!
